Simkhai Pre-Fall 2023 Collection

Razzle-dazzle embellishments are balanced by body-hugging knits and knit-woven combos in Simkhai’s celebratory pre-fall collection, which is rendered in solid, neutral colors. A slash of yellow brightens things up and confirms the upbeat feeling of the season. “For me, the precollections are really about giving the customer what they want, and the runway collections are about showing them what they want. You have a chance to push them and explore new ideas and take them somewhere,” the designer said on a call.

There’s been a lot of focus on festive and event dressing at Simkhai of late. That’s represented here by texturally embellished pieces like a caviar black bra top with pendant beads and a charming LBD with a rhinestone strap across the bust. Newer for the brand is a more clean-lined approach. Lured by the siren call of the ’90s, Simkhai said his aim was to craft a “clean and polished” lineup that also had something “relatable and raw to it.” Amber Valletta in an ivory dress with a scuba-tight top that opens up to a softer skirt of silk achieves it.
