Sinead O’Connor was found ‘unresponsive’ at her home in London

Sinead O’Connor was found “unresponsive” at a home in south-east London on Wednesday, the Met Police has said.

A police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 11.18am on Wednesday, July 26, to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area.

“Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Next of kin have been notified.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

O’Connor’s family confirmed the music legend had died aged 56, on Wednesday.

She was best known for her 1990 single Nothing Compares 2 U, which hit number one around the world.

In a statement, her family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.

“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

The acclaimed musician released ten studio albums across her career, and was presented with the inaugural award for Classic Irish Album at the RTÉ Choice Music Awards earlier this year.

O’Connor is survived by her three children, Jake Reynolds, Roisin Waters and Yeshua Bonadio.

Her son Shane Lunny died last year at the age of 17.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said: “Really sorry to hear of the passing of Sinead O’Connor.

“Her music was loved around the world and her talent was unmatched and beyond compare.”
