The marque specialists count this most-recent project as a step in its Turbo Study program—how’s a boosted 510 hp sound?

Singer Vehicle Design mid-August unveiled its latest creation — a ‘Reimagined’ Porsche 911 (964-generation) Cabriolet. This reveal is yet another chapter in the Porsche specialist’s Turbo Study, a program focusing on road-going Porsche restorations with forced induction. However, this one stands out, as it’s the first time Singer will work its Porsche magic on a cabriolet. All previous models have been based on the coupe- or Targa-bodied 964-generation 911s.

As with most Singer projects, the 911 Cabriolet project was largely executed according to the lucky owner’s specifications, using the results of the Turbo Study. It all began with the body of a classic type-964 Porsche 911 Cabriolet, with several enhancements helping transform the car into a road-worthy machine in line with modern-day driving standards. Design highlights include lightweight carbon-fibre bodywork, automatic fabric hood, carbon-ceramic brakes, air conditioning, and electrically adjustable sport seats.

Singer’s take on the 911 Cabriolet is air-cooled, a direct nod to the original vehicle’s roots. However, the powerplant is an upgraded 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six with electric wastegates and bespoke air-to-water intercoolers. Power starts at 450 hp, but can be increased to 510 hp on request. This particular example boasts 510 hp, fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The owner also opted for a softer “touring-focused” suspension, one of two available suspension setup options.

In a statement, Singer founder Rob Dickinson acknowledged just how significant the reimagined 911 Cabriolet is. “The first Porsche, the Sport 356/1 known as ‘Number 1,’ was a cabriolet, and high-performance, open-roof glamour has been part of the story ever since. I’ve long wanted to celebrate that part of Porsche heritage at Singer, and doing so as part of our recently announced Turbo Study seems a perfect place to start.”

There’s no word on pricing, but Singer vehicles are understandably not cheap, and seven-figure numbers have been floated for past creations. In any case, Singer says its order books are already filled for several years, and even if you could afford it, the wait would be a very long one.
