The Philadelphia 76ers have one of the best big men in basketball at the center position — and now they have his potential backup.
The Sixers hope to retain restricted free agent Paul Reed, but they added 25-year-old center Mo Mamba as an insurance policy behind Joel Embiid if they’re unable to do so.
Bamba, who was waived by the Lakers last week, agreed to a one-year contract with the Sixers on Wednesday.

Though Reed isn’t a traditional center, he took over a significant chunk of the big man minutes behind Embiid this past season. The Sixers are reportedly interested in re-signing the 6-foot-9 24 year old after he posted career-best numbers in 2022-23.
Another Philadelphia backup big man, Montrezl Harrell, declined his $2.7 million player option and opted for free agency heading into this coming season. The team added veteran center Dewayne Deadman back in February.
Bamba notched 3.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in nine games for the Lakers this past season.
