Skoda’s new Superb flagship taking shape

Skoda has once again teased the upcoming, fourth-generation Superb ahead of its reveal in the Northern Hemisphere autumn (September to November), showing it among its predecessors.

A short teaser video shows the new Superb in both liftback and wagon guises with large pieces of green fabric draped over them.

The design appears to be evolutionary, with both models having a similar silhouette to the current Superb. There’s also a sharp crease wrapping around the side and back of both the teased vehicles.

Skoda is written out across the rear of the Superb liftback. It’s expected this motif will carry over to the wagon version too.

The Superb will be among the last to be introduced wearing Skoda’s traditional badge, albeit in flatter 2D form. All new launches from 2024 will see the winged logo banished to the wheels only, with the Skoda wordmark used front and rear.

Other recent teaser images have shown there will be a distinctive LED daytime running light signature that wraps around to form a ‘Y’ shape.

As recently reported, Skoda is also readying a new-generation version of its Kodiaq SUV.

Both the new Superb and Kodiaq will offer a range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The current Superb is offered in PHEV guise in Europe, though the Kodiaq has never offered such a powertrain.

Both models are also expected to move to the MQB Evo architecture, like the current Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, and Cupra Formentor.

We’re yet to see any interior imagery of either the new Superb or Kodiaq, though both are expected to feature more tablet-style infotainment touchscreens.

Last year’s Vision 7S concept previewed such a screen, along with a row of physical switches and three rotary dials on the centre console.

Skoda has a glut of fresh product coming.

Refreshed versions of the Scala, Kamiq and Octavia are due in Australia in 2024, along with the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe electric SUVs.

Skoda has also detailed its upcoming range of EVs in Europe. A refreshed Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe are due in 2025, while a new Volkswagen Tiguan-sized model called the Elroq will replace the combustion-powered Karoq in 2024.

A new entry-level EV priced around 25,000 euros (~A$41,000) is due in 2025, and will be followed by a station wagon and a large three-row SUV in 2026.

Local launch timing for these models has yet to be announced.
