A mere five days into 2023, and we’re already comfortably living in the year of Skrillex. The veteran producer’s highly anticipated renaissance kicked off on January 4 with a rousing lead single to what many believe to be a pair of studio albums, likely set to land exactly a decade after Skrillex’s critically lauded debut LP, Recess. When “Rumble” landed, flanked by Fred again.. on the production and versework by Flowdan, it was clear an album rollout was surely underway—though, little did anyone think that a second single would follow in a matter of hours. Now, the OWSLA head honcho has enlisted the talents of PinkPanthress and Trippie Redd on “Way Back,” his second single in as many days.

A common theme across Sonny Moore’s extensive catalog is his collaborative nature, so naturally the appearance of Redd and PinkPanthress on the producer’s latest single helps crystalize the upcoming project(s)’ stylistic complexion. Certainly, with Fred again.., Flowdan, and some general floating hype from longtime friend and collaborator Four Tet on his hiatus-breaker, a quick glimpse at the collaborative blueprint for the upcoming LPs was already front-and-center. Now, on “Way Back,” Skrillex and his cohorts continue to build anticipation for the producer’s full fledged two-album comeback. Delivering another effortlessly sharp ace, Skrillex is undoubtedly back, with who knows how many more cards tucked up his sleeve. Listen and find out.
