If you’ve ever wanted to dash around The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as a character from a different video game, then this Skyrim Sonic mod is the one for you!
Players have long modded Skyrim for all kinds of purposes. Anything from improving graphics to swapping out character models is fair game, and these wacky mods have led to some hilarious gameplay. After all, it’s hard to stifle a laugh when a dragon descends upon you, yelling shouts dressed as Macho Man Randy Savage.
Now, modders have taken it a bit further, choosing to mod the player character model instead. Though Bethesda already provided a fairly robust character creation system, it doesn’t quite let its players incorporate unconventional decisions. At most, players can make use of the system’s sliders to generate some wild proportions; however, its base controls aren’t as successful as a complete model swap.
Luckily, for anyone wanting to travel around Skyrim as a recognizable Sega character, there’s a new Skyrim mod that lets players explore as Sonic the Hedgehog. Gotta go fast, Dragonborn!
The Ultimate Sonic Skyrim Mod
Of course, this isn’t the first time a modder has changed up Skyrim’s main player character. The internet has seen improved Khajit models, CJ from GTA San Andreas (because of course), as well as Link from The Legend of Zelda series. All of those characters are decidedly humanoid, and this Sonic mod really takes things to the next level.
Reddit user jailson1mendes originally posted the below screenshot to the r/Skyrim subreddit. In the image, the normally-humanoid Dragonborn character model is entirely replaced by none other than Sonic the Hedgehog. Weirdly enough, he looks simultaneously out of place and in-theme in Skyrim.
The Sonic model is high-definition enough to fit in visually with Skyrim’s environment, but his cartoony vibe most certainly feels at odds with the high-fantasy game. Artist DANCADA (@artofdancada) created the Sonic model, which was then incorporated into the mod. The result is a Sonic-Skyrim playthrough that looks far better than VideoGameDunkey’s joking “Sanic” feature.
This mod, however, does more than just replace the character model. It also gives players a unique spin attack, based off of Sonic’s usual moveset. This, combined with his own special sprinting and spin-jump animations, bring the Sonic flair to Skyrim. Additionally, if the player has a weapon unsheathed, the spin attack will continue to do damage. Modder and uploader HorseHeadHenry credit fellow modder elysees for the scripting behind Sonic’s spin attack.
Anyone interested in this mod can find it here, at Nexus mods, for Skyrim special edition. Once downloaded, players will have the option of choosing “Hedgehog” as their starting race. This will automatically set their character model to Sonic, and open the world up to a brand new – albeit weird – adventure.
