Slender model wore ‘PADDING’ for plus-size shoots

A European fashion model claims she’s donned a fat suit to feature in promotions for “plus-sized” clothing.

Karoline Bjørnelykke goes by the handle @coolquinn on TikTok and used the video-sharing app to reveal how she gets booked for jobs wearing XL outfits.

The model – an Australian size 8 – explained how she would bring “padding”, or a broken down fat suit, to set.

“If you have eyes, you can see I’m not that size,” she said.

“So how do we fix this? Well, basically I have to bring to work something called padding, which is basically a fat suit in (separate ) pieces.”

The model then demonstrates her transformation in front of the camera – “You just stuff them in” – before adding how you can “pin everything in the back”.

“So, if clothes look really good from the front, they probably look like sh*t from the back,” she said.

Bjørnelykke says casting agents prefer to hire thinner women over plus-sized models because “they want the neck and the face to look really slim and sharp.”

“(This) doesn’t just create unrealistic standards but impossible ones,” she said.

This type of action is not the first time it’s been raised publicly, with one publication describing it eight years ago as “a trick of the trade”.

However those replying to Bjørnelykke’s video were quick to voice their disgust with the industry.

“The model industry really hates plus sized models,” one person said.

Another commented: “I just realised how many times I have fallen for this, being ashamed of my double chin.”

When questioned, Bjørnelykke said she no longer took these types of jobs.

“I did a couple of these many years ago when I just got signed with an agency in NY and had a contract obligation,” she said.

“But I refuse to do them now because I think it’s ethically wrong and I don’t desperately need the money.”
