The Smashing Pumpkins are hitting the road in July for a 26-date North American trek,
The outing, dubbed the World Is a Vampire Tour, includes a Bay Area stop on Aug. 3 at Shoreline Amphitheatre at Mountain view.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. March 31, livenation.com. There is also an artist presale that runs noon March 28 to 10 p.m. March 30.

“I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong,” says Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan. “That’s what The World Is a Vampire is about. Bringing back that sense of community. If you don’t fit in, you belong here.
“It’s about having a shared experience and respecting others, but ultimately having fun. A true alternative festival, where all the self-proclaimed weirdos and outsiders of the world can get together and have a party.”
The tour also has four other California dates — Aug. 7 at Toyota Amphitheatre in Wheatland, Aug. 9 at FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, Aug. 10 at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista and Aug. 11 at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland.
Smashing Pumpkins will be supporting the last installment of “Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts,” which is due out May 5.
Don’t want to wait until August to see the band? The Pumpkins also play at BottleRock Napa Valley on May 26, as well as perform a special small venue BottleRock Afterdark show at JaM Cellars Ballroom in Napa on May 25.
