“So confidence shouldn’t be dented one little bit and if they can get a win tomorrow, I’d fancy them to go all the way and actually win the title. But that’s a big if at the moment, that’s a difficult game despite Liverpool’s troubles.”
Smith is nervous, as are most Arsenal fans, at what climax we will see this season. He reckons victory at Anfield will properly make supporters dream this is their year.
He added: “Yeah I think most Arsenal fans would be [nervous] because it’s been so long, 19 years. Nobody expected Arsenal to be in this position.
“They’d have taken a Champions League spot, fourth spot maybe, at the start of the season after losing out to Spurs last. So they dared to dream almost but if they were to beat Liverpool tomorrow, they will start properly dreaming.
“It’s a big hurdle. Arsenal are so close and they’ve given us so much joyous football this season under Arteta, so much to admire. It’s been a brilliant title race and I think it’s probably going to go all the way.”
