Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan has opened up on his retirement plan and where given an insight into where his career will end.

The World No1’s currently participating in the Six Red World Championship, held in Thailand. And while he’s hoping to clinch the prize that’s eluded him since 1996, the 47-year-old revealed that he’ll be spending a lot more time in Asia at this stage of his career.

And in order to so, The Rocket’s willing to sacrifice playing in the United Kingdom to satisfy his huge Asian fanbase and sponsors, who prefer him to play in the Far East. Ronnie explained: “It’s all about priorities, I have always planned my year out well in advance. I cannot go to every tournament. I try to spread it about.

“I’d like to finish my career off in Asia. This is where snooker is more popular – like in China, Thailand and Hong Kong.

“With Covid it wasn’t possible to come here. My sponsors like to see me in Asia. When things open up more, I may play more in Asia and skip a few events in the UK. I cannot do them all.”

And Ronnie also touched on the calibre of players he’d like to face in the latter stages of his career. He added: “It’s always good to play a local favourite, whether that is Ken Doherty in Ireland, John Higgins in Scotland, Mark Williams in Wales, James Wattana here in Thailand or Ding Junhui in China. Those are fantastic occasions.”

But right now, he’s focused on defeating Stan Moody in Thailand, before competing in group action against Wattana after getting past Jimmy Robertson, with a 5-3 victory on Tuesday.

When he does finally put up his snooker cue, Ronnie will have more time on his hands to play darts, which he enjoys so much he once revealed he should’ve been a professional star in the sport.
