Snooker legend Steve Davis has potted his biggest break as a DJ – supporting Britpop rockers Blur at Wembley.

The six-time world champion, 65, has wowed crowds with his electronic beats DJ sets since retiring from the baize. And now he is booked to perform in front of 90,000 people at the Parklife band’s concerts this summer.

It will be his second appearance at Wembley – after playing as goalie in a TV celebrity football match before the 1987 FA Cup final. He said: “Last time I played at Wembley was in goal for Coventry but things have just gone to another level.”

The Plumstead-born potter will be lining up behind the decks before fellow support act Paul Weller takes to the stage on July 8 and 9. The announcement caused a meltdown on social media as fans flocked online to buy gig tickets.

One fan tweeted: “Blur, Paul Weller and Steve Davis.. If someone told me that they’d be playing Wembley Stadium on the same bill, I’d have asked what they were smoking.”

“Excited to book tickets to see Blur at Wembley in July! Paul Weller too AND most importantly Steve Davis!!!” harked another excited supporter.

“Quite a show at Wembley in July. The Selector, Paul Weller and Blur. And all kicking off with a set from Steve Davis. Quite a life from Davis – a couple of generations ago, he played in a special celebrity match before the Coventry v Spurs Cup final,” commented a third.

Davis famously joined Chas & Dave to record Top 10 hit Snooker Loopy in 1986 with other cue stars, even performing on Top of the Pops. The 65-year-old confirmed the gig with a tongue-in-cheek post on social media, tweeting: “Last time I played at Wembley was in goal for Coventry but things have just gone to another level.”
