Snooker: Ronnie O’Sullivan Gets Into Spat With Referee – Snooker Freaks

Ronnie O’Sullivan got into a spat with the referee during his World Snooker Championship final clash with Judd Trump.

At the Crucible, the Essex-born star got into a debate with the referee as he sarcastically asked if the official wanted to take his shot for him. O’Sullivan, 46, wanted the white ball moved fractionally as he thought he could previously get a line in for hitting it before the referee put the ball down again. Video technology was used, and Trump also came over for a look.

The snooker supremo ended up getting into a bicker with the ref over the incident, with the finalist even at one point asking if he would like to take the cue and give it a go himself. Eventually, O’Sullivan managed to hit the red with a long shot.

The incident, however, was picked up on by fans, who were displeased with how O’Sullivan went about things. One blasted online: “WIW I think Ronnie O’Sullivan hammed that situation up and was actually a bit of a nuisance in the end. He’s trying it on a bit too much with referees for my liking.”

Another said: “Love Ronnie O’Sullivan but the way he tries to humiliate referees is horrific.”

A third raged: “Ronnie O’Sullivan disrespecting the referee once again. Best player ever but a shocking attitude towards officials.”

A fourth said: “O’Sullivan was disrespectful to the referee in the semi-final and now he’s done it again in the final. Absolutely no need for it.”

A last one scorned: “When Ronnie O’Sullivan does things like that is when I find it hard to support him. It’s just so disrespectful to the referee. The ref isn’t some super computer.”

The world number one is looking for his record-equalling seventh championship in Sheffield, in a contest that could see him move past Stephen Hendry as the snooker player with the most title wins.
