Japanese label Snow Peak has presented its Spring/Summer 2022 collection, a range that has been “created to be able to interact with the natural environment, regardless of whether it’s in a city or the country.”
To showcase the new range, Snow Peak has partnered with mandarin orange farmer and keen skateboarder Yuichiro Wakamatsu for its lookbook. Born on a local orange farm in the Japanese area of Uwajima, Wakamatsu became obsessed with skateboarding after studying at university in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
Keen to share his passions and experiences to more rural areas, after graduating, he soon began constructing a skate ramp for friends and locals to enjoy. Speaking about his project, the twenty-nine-year-old said: “I wanted to create a place where these friends could stay in Uwajima and enjoy nature, harvest mandarin oranges, and enjoy skating while communicating with local people.”
The new range comprises a host of technical garments, including packable rainwear, Quick Dry garments made from 100% recycled polyester, and a new Insect Shield line that features mesh inserts to provide protection from pests. SS22 also marks the return of the label’s takibi line — with ripstop shirts, pullovers, and overalls — and a selection of relaxed-fit Light Mountain Cloth garments, designed for everyday wear, presented in natural colourways and contrasting pops of mandarin orange.
