‘So much cheaper’ Low-cost, natural hack to clean ‘disgusting’ bathroom tiles and grout

Bathroom tiles and grout can fall victim to discolouration and limescale stains. The problem with these areas is that water and bathing products are often the reason they become marked and stained. Therefore, no matter how frequently you clean your bathroom, regular use is likely to cause marks to build up once again.

Although there are plenty of cleaning products available that promise to leave a long-lasting shine on your bathroom tiles and banish unwanted stains from grout, they can be costly.

However, one savvy resident has their own solution which they says is “so much cheaper than buying stuff”.

Posting to a “life hacks” Reddit forum, the user said: “In the last six months I’ve really gotten into making my own household cleaning solutions.

“I’ll admit that for me it’s mostly because it’s so much cheaper than buying stuff, but it’s also much more environmentally friendly too if that’s more your thing.”

To tackle dirty tiles, the user revealed that all you need is some dishwashing liquid and white vinegar.

They explained: “[Use] 12 ounces of dishwashing soap and 12 ounces of hot white vinegar, heat in the microwave.

“Dump them in a spray bottle and shake them gently to mix.

“Spray like crazy on those tiles. It works great at taking off soap scum and just general cleaning for the bathtub area.” [SIC]

They explained: “If your grout is particularly disgusting I would use something else on that.

“Probably baking soda and hydrogen peroxide mixed together into a paste.

“Let it set for a few minutes and then rinse it off.”

Baking soda is mildly abrasive so it helps remove the dirt that is stuck in the porous grout surfaces without causing any damage.
