Things descended into chaos as the 87-year-old congratulated Dermot for his “bravery”, as Alison erupted into fits of giggles.
“Well I’ve got a very good memory Dermot, a very good memory, and incidentally I want to congratulate you by the way, seriously, on your courage,” Barry told Dermot, who began to look slightly confused.
“Last year, no, no, when he came out and told us about his sexuality,” Barry continued resolutely, as the two could barely keep it together.
“No, no, because I think a lot of people respected you for that,” Barry insisted, as Dermot politely replied: “Thank you, I’ll pass that on to the gentleman who is here Monday to Thursday.”
