Soccer Aid 2023 is right around the corner and the stars are ready to go.
This year, Lioness Jill Scott makes her debut and will captain England as the world’s biggest celebrity football match returns to raise money for the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).
Also making their debut are Danny Dyer, Tommy Fury, and Tom Hiddleston, who’ll join Usain Bolt’s World XI in Sunday’s charity match at Old Trafford.
The World XI will be managed by new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino – so there’s a lot riding on this!
Other stars confirmed to be taking to the pitch are Liam Payne and Stormzy, as well as ex-Premier League footballers Jack Wilshere and Jermain Defoe.
Harry Redknapp, Vicky McClure, and David Seaman have also been on hand to put the celebs through their paces during training, but now they’ve done all they can as the big game looms.
Despite the natural rivalry between the two teams, everyone looked chipper as they arrived in Manchester from London.
The players could be seen waving and taking time to walk over and greet fans as they welcomed all the support they could get.
Love Island’s Tommy looked like he meant business as he posed with his arms crossed, while comedian Lee Mack flashed a smile for cameras.
Loki actor Tom was also all smiles as he hopped off the coach, while captain Jill looked itching for kick-off.
EastEnders star Danny arrived with a cigarette in his mouth and stuck his thumb up at the crowd.
Line of Duty favourite Martin Compston also gave cheering fans a wave.
Old Trafford has hosted Soccer Aid eight times since it began in 2006.
However, this year marks the first time since 2020 that Old Trafford will host the event when it was played behind closed doors due to the pandemic.
Speaking ahead of the match, I’m A Celebrity winner Jill Scott, said: ‘The Euros, The Jungle, and now Soccer Aid for Unicef – it’s the holy trinity!
‘I’ve won two of them, so just need Soccer Aid now to complete The Treble!
‘I think of all three, this might be the one I’m most nervous about, though – just look at the names involved! Buy a ticket, support this amazing cause and cheer us on!’
Soccer Aid takes place on Sunday, June 11 at 7.30pm and will be broadcast on ITV and STV, with a live stream available on ITVX.
