A third-grader in Texas by the name of Zayon Martinez has refused to return to school in Uvalde, Texas, after that city’s mass school shooting three months ago because he feels police officers won’t protect him.

According to thedailymail.com, Martinez was among those hiding under a teacher’s desk as 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos shot his friends dead inside a classroom at Robb Elementary School.

Martinez also said higher fencing wouldn’t keep a gunman away so he and his older sister, 12-year-old daughter, Analiyh, are only willing to attend classes remotely, according to their father.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

Their father, Adam Martinez, told CNN: “I went and talked to my son, and I told him, ‘They’re gonna have more cops. They’re gonna have higher fencing,’ and he wasn’t having it.” (He said): ‘It doesn’t matter. They’re not gonna protect us.’ I talked to my son and daughter, and they said that they were afraid that if it happened again, they weren’t going to be protected.”
