Son Heung-min says he is ‘fine’ after the Tottenham star suffered an injury scare while on international duty with South Korea.

The Spurs forward was on the score sheet as South Korea sealed a 5-0 win over Singapore in their World Cup qualifier on Thursday, hitting the back of the net with a fine strike from the edge of the box.

But the 31-year-old was left clutching his right ankle in the closing stages of the match after a heavy challenge that required treatment from his national team medical staff.

Son eventually hobbled off the pitch before seeing out the rest of the match.

Tottenham have been dealt a string of injury blows in recent weeks with James Maddison and Micky van de Ven ruled out until the New Year after they were forced off with ankle and hamstring injuries in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea before the international break.

Richarlison will also be unavailable for the next month after undergoing surgery.

Son however has eased fears over his fitness.

‘I am fine now, I don’t like to lie down (on the pitch) in the winter. At that moment (I went down) I couldn’t feel anything on my foot,’ he told reporters in the mixed zone post-match.

‘It’s not only me, all players have small injuries but still play for the team.’

South Korea take on China in another World Cup qualifier on Tuesday before the resumption of the domestic campaign.

Speaking after the game, his national team boss Jurgen Klinsmann described the tackle on Son as ‘inappropriate’, given his side were cruising to a comfortable win.

‘I was angry at the scene where a foul was committed on Son Heung-min in a 4-0 situation,’ said Klinsmann. ‘It was an inappropriate foul and should not have been made.’

Tottenham return to action against Aston Villa on Sunday 26 November before a visit to champions Manchester City the following week.

In addition to his injury absentees, Ange Postecglou will be without defender Cristian Romero for those fixtures as a result of the straight red card he was shown against Chelsea.
