Situated on an idyllic bluff, overlooking the sparkling Pacific Ocean, Timber Cove Resort is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a week-long celebration of events scheduled from July 25 to July 29, 2023. Built in 1963 as a self-proclaimed “place of meditation and tranquility,” Timber Cove features a 93 foot landmark obelisk, the Bufano Peace Statue Monument, along with iconic architecture that that incorporates redwood, stone and other natural materials to compliment the property’s unparalleled surroundings.
The Sonoma coast offers travelers over 400 wineries, many of which are award winning, and charming towns that include Jenner, Bodega Bay and Fort Ross — each with its own unique character and highlights. From endless hiking trails that take you along the craggy coast and through open grasslands, wooded hills, and pygmy forests at nearby Salt Point State Park to admiring the epic redwood groves at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, those that appreciate the great outdoors are in for a treat.
When it comes to fully appreciating the rugged beauty of Northern California, few properties can offer unobstructed coastal views the way Timber Cove resort does. Whether an overnight guest, or simply stopping by to enjoy the scenery, miles of hiking trails or a meal at Coast Kitchen, it’s a worthwhile stop on California’s famed Highway 1.
On property is Coast Kitchen, a 54-seat “coastal wine country concept” offering diner’s seasonal, California cuisine featuring locally sourced ingredients and Sonoma-based wines against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. The restaurant offers a design that pays homage to both the sea and forest with warm woods, stones and earth-based decor elements. The menu itself features dishes that are further elevated with the bounty of local farmers, cheese mongers, mushroom foragers and other producers.
Standout starters include local Point Reyes Oysters with a sun dried tomato mignonette; Tiber Cove Board with local cheeses and meats; Smoked Trout Chowder with micro greens; Steamed Mussels with a spicy tomato oil and house chorizo; Halibut Ceviche with habanero sauce and garlic puree and more.
The entrees are divided by sea, garden and land. From the Sea includes dishes like the Ora King Salmon with saffron risotto and the savory Seaweed Crusted Halibut with mushroom dashi broth and mixed seaweed. On the Land includes dishes like the Grilled Pork Tenderloin with a peach BBQ sauce and a Grilled NY Strip Steak with a pasilla marinade.
As for the garden highlights, favorites include the Ricotta Cavatelli with grilled summer squash and the Pan Roasted Cauliflower Steak. For dessert, don’t miss out on the Strawberry & Rhubarb Crisp, the S’mores, or Key Lime Pie.
For lucky guests who wake up at Timber Cove, breakfast highlights include the Apple Butter Belgian Waffle with Applewood smoked bacon; French Toast with Nutella and vanilla pudding and the Timber Cove Eggs Benedict with house cured tasso ham.
Upcoming 60th anniversary programming includes special events that include morning yoga, guided hikes and fireside chats with notable guests like Ansel Adams’ Editor and Assistant Mary Alinder. When it comes to wine, guests are invited to a Wine Tasting and Vineyard Tour at Wayfarer Vineyard with master educator and winemaker Todd Kohn. The Sonoma wines featured during this tasting will include wines like the 2021 Wayfarer Estate Fort Ross-Seaview The Traveler Pinot Noir, with light snacks by Timber Cove’s Coast Kitchen team.
And last but certainly not least, Timber Cove’s special 60th anniversary dinner is set for July 29th, featuring wine by Wayfarer Vineyard and food by renowned Chef Dustin Valette of Valette Healdsburg and The Matheson. The four course dinner will feature:
