Sony Project Q Shown In Leak To Run Android

Back in May, PlayStation announced the Project Q handheld, made for the sole purpose of being a Remote Play proxy for the PS5. If the Access controller is any indication, the lack of a commercial name indicated that it was still quite a ways away from a general release. Of course, that’s not stopping leaks of the thing from making their way onto the internet.

Over the weekend, we have a small collection of just that, with a photo and a  video of the thing coming from a leakster known as @Zuby_Tech on Twitter. To start, the leakser posted a 28-second video of Project Q running what looks like a Chinese version of what looks like Android OS. Beyond showing the UI, the video also gives us a sort-of 36–degree look of the streaming handheld, still with plastic wrapping all over it.

In another tweet, the leakster has an image of Project Q without its screen, showing the housing that holds the electronics within. It’s pretty difficult to make out anything here besides what looks like a battery. Minus all the DualSense magic that’s hidden in the controller portion of the device, it still looks pretty bare behind the screen. Not entirely surprising, considering it was only supposed to stream PS5 games rather than running them independently on a lower setting.

For now, the only thing going for the mostly underwhelming Project Q is the fact that it may be running Android, and even this is for those who venture into the homebrew and sideloading territory. Outside of modders, there will probably be a small market for those who didn’t like Remote Play and are banking on this being a better PS5 streaming experience. But it likely won’t be a big slice of the market pie.
