Making the announcement on Twitter, the Dutch developer confirmed that from August 12th, 2022 players will no longer be able to play any of the games’ online modes or use any online features. If you have any lingering online-centric trophies holding you back from 100% completion, you’d better act fast and maybe get some like-minded players together before the opportunity to obtain the trophies is lost forever.

It is always a shame when online modes are put to rest, but in fairness, these games are getting on in years. Killzone: Shadow Fall was a launch game for the PS4, after all, so the fact it has remained online for almost nine years is an achievement in itself.

It’s a surprise that the plug wasn’t pulled sooner for this one, really, especially as the game itself outlived its developer, Guerrilla Cambridge, which closed its doors a year after its debut PSVR game.

And finally, Killzone: Mercenary – arguably the PS Vita’s best first-person shooter – has done extremely well to stave off the server shut down since releasing in 2013. I know I have some fond memories of Killzone: Mercenary’s surprisingly good online multiplayer, so I’ll be hopping on for a few rounds before the final curtain call. See you on the battlefield, folks…
