Sophie, Countess of Wessex was pictured attending the State Banquet for the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa at Buckingham Palace this evening. Sophie entered alongside her husband, Prince Edward, wearing a beautiful teal dress and had accessorised with the aquamarine necklace tiara that is rumoured to have been bought for her by the British Royal Family. The royal also displayed her Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victoria Order which she had recently been awarded by the late Queen Elizabeth.

Sophie’s dress is from the brand Suzannah and is the Phoenix Gown Jade Silk Crepe. It is currently available online for £3,190.

The dress description reads: “A stunning floor length, mid-weight pure silk crepe gown , softly tailored in a beautiful rich Jade green Italian pure silk Cady.

“Made in our London Atelier, the bodice is cut with a flattering knot detail which draws and drapes the beautiful cloth at an elegant v neck. The sleeves are floaty to tie in with the fluid nature of the skirt.

“The dress is made from our signature high quality traceable Italian silk crepe. The dress falls beautifully and is fully lined in silk and has a centre back zip for step-in ease.

For jewellery, she opted for her Aquamarine Necklace tiara which is said to be worth £500,000. The piece is interesting as it’s really a two-in-one item.

Ailsa Russell Appraiser Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn previously told Express.co.uk how it’s “known as the ‘Aquamarine Necklace Tiara’” and is “modern in design”.

The tiara features “diamond set wave motifs, with a large oval cut blue-green aquamarine in the centre”.

“The beautiful piece can also be worn as a necklace, and the Countess of Wessex has worn it as such to many public events.

“Debuted by the Countess in 2005 and unseen on previous Royals it has been assumed that this is part of Sophie’s private collections and the piece has been attributed to famed Royal jewellers G. Collins and Sons.

“The incredible centre stone and fully diamond set metal work, alongside the Royal provenance, make this stunning tiara incredibly desirable and on the open market it could possible reach a value of £500,000,” Alisa said.

She also showcased Queen Elizabeth’s Sunray Fringe Necklace and earrings from the Queen’s Diamond Chandelier Drop Demi-Parure.

Sophie’s choice of dress divided royal fans. @Intgrl on Instagram said: “Not a fan!! Not dressy enough for a state dinner. Sorry Sophie.” And Selma_afk1 agreed: “I love this look but I feel she is a bit under dressed for the banquet. She looks stunning either way.”

@Babygoatx_ commented: “Loving this subdued look from Sophie, the jewelry shines and the dress accents her eyes and tiara well. I wish the dress matched the tiara more but either way it’s good! I wonder if those earrings belonged to the Queen? The shoes aren’t my fav but it’s cool.”

@plbatch56 added: “So nice to see the late Queen being represented with her jewels, the tiara is so beautiful on Sophie.”
