Sophie Wessex could wear upgraded jewel to Palace event

The Royal Family is preparing to welcome President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa to Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. In the evening King Charles, accompanied by Queen Consort Camilla, will give a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace in honour of the visit.

Traditionally, members of the working Royal Family support the monarch with state visits, so we may expect Sophie, Countess of Wessex to attend.

And at formal state occasions, royal women tend to wear tiaras from their own or the royal collection.

The Anthemion Tiara is best known as Sophie, Countess of Wessex’s most-worn tiara and it has a fascinating royal history.

Sophie’s tiara has been dubbed the Anthemion Tiara due to its use of “a technique used in ancient Greek times that features fanned petals,” according to Vogue.

Clearly a fan of aquamarines, Sophie also owns the Aquamarine Necklace Tiara.

As its name suggests, this tiara can also be worn as a necklace and it features a central aquamarine and wave motifs.

Sophie may also choose to wear a diadem she’s never worn before to mark the accession of a new monarch to the throne.

Also in attendance will be Queen Camilla, and in the past, she has favoured the Greville Tiara.

A royal diadem with a distinct honeycomb pattern, the Greville Tiara was a firm favourite of the late Queen Mother. Camilla has also previously worn the Delhi Durbar Tiara and her own family heirloom, the Cubitt-Shand Tiara.

Kate, Princess of Wales may also attend the State Banquet on Tuesday, her first in her new royal role.

Kate often wears the Lover’s Knot Tiara, a whimsical pearl diadem her late mother-in-law Princess Diana made so famous.

The Princess of Wales has also previously worn the Lotus Flower Tiara for a State Banquet. On her wedding day, she wore the Cartier Halo Tiara from the royal collection for the first and only time.
