South Bay farmers’ markets feature bounty of summer produce

Everyone loves a farmers’ market. And the corn, peaches and tomatoes are just killer right now, so don’t miss out on the bounty. VMC Foundation initially launched a farmers’ market back in 2013, under the leadership of then-executive director Chris Wilder, on the campus of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (with the help of the Health Trust). After a two-year hiatus, current executive director Michael Elliott says the market is returning at the newly completed Renova Park in the heart of the medical center’s campus. The market should run Wednesdays through November.

Speaking of Wednesday markets, the Santana Row Farmer’s Market is in full swing Wednesdays, 4-8 p.m., between Olin Avenue and Olsen Drive.

For those who prefer produce and food delivered to their doorsteps, Los Gatos-based Locale just launched City Discovery Boxes, featuring foods from Los Angeles, including Michelin Bib gourmand burritos from La Palma’s, Pasta Sister’s affordable and delicious noodles, Langer’s Deli and Pizzana. https://www.shoplocale.com

The Bywater in Los Gatos has some new supper menu items to entice you in, like corn tomato watermelon salad, a Bywater Burger with caramelized onion gravy, and beef cheeks with green Trinidad sauce. Dinner is served Wednesday-Sunday starting at 5 p.m. https://www.thebywaterca.com

ROOH, at 473 University Ave. in Palo Alto, is one of the first restaurants utilizing Black Sheep, a new plant-based lamb alternative. Founders Sunny Kumar and Ismael Montanez are regulars at the Indian restaurant, founded by Microsoft alums Anu and Vikram Bhambri.

Other local eateries using Black Sheep’s products are the Oren’s Hummus locations in Los Gatos, Cupertino, Mountain View and Palo Alto. https://blacksheepfoods.com

Just up the coast, the Ritz-Carlton in  Half Moon Bay recently kicked off its Global Cuisine Series, in which Michelin-starred chefs from across the country will collaborate with newly appointed executive chef, Roberto Riveros on dinner and brunch menus at Navio restaurant. Guest chefs include Matthew Neele from Wallsé in New York City and Noah Sandoval from Oriole in Chicago.

Each chef will be on site for one weekend, with their dishes appearing on the Friday and Saturday Chef’s Tasting dinner menus and at weekend brunch at Navio. Brunch and dinner are both $249 per guest. Reserve a table at https://www.exploretock.com/navio.
