Southampton and Rangers in advanced talks over Joe Aribo deal

Southampton are in advanced talks with Rangers to sign Joe Aribo in a £10m deal.

The attacking midfielder is entering the last year of his contract at Ibrox and has a release clause for that amount in his deal.

Southampton want Aribo at St Mary’s for the new season and have not been put off by that figure, and are looking to get a deal over the line.

Aribo has become an important player for Rangers since Steven Gerrard signed him from Charlton in 2019 on a four-year deal.

The Nigeria international played 57 times last season as Rangers reached the Europa League final, finished second in the Premiership and won the Scottish Cup.

Aribo scored nine times for the Ibrox side last season, setting up ten goals.

Rangers’ summer business so far has been focused on securing new contracts for players, with Connor Goldson, Steven Davis, Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield all committing to the club.

John Souttar has joined Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad after agreeing a pre-contract move earlier this year, while Cedric Itten has moved to Yonug Boys and Leon Balogun has left at the end of his contract.
