Spanish Actor Gabriel Guevara Arrested at Venice Film Festival on Sexual Assault Charge

Spanish actor Gabriel Guevara, the star of Prime Video’s hit teen film franchise My Fault, has been arrested at the Venice Film Festival. Guevara had an active international warrant out on him for an alleged sexual assault in France. Venice police confirmed the arrest, originally reported by Venice daily La Nuova.

The court of appeals will rule on his case before the extradition proceeding can begin. No further details on the assault or the arrest have been provided at this time.

Guevara was arrested by Italian state police in Venice on Saturday, Sept. 2, a day before he was set to receive a best young actor honor given out by Filming Italy on Sunday, Sept. 3. On hearing of his arrest, Filming Italy canceled the award, which they said was a “precautionary measure” pending the outcome of the case against him.

The festival put out a statement on its official Twitter account, writing that it “would like to specify that the presence in #Venice of Spanish actor #GabrielGuevara, that some press websites have recently reported as being under arrest, was not linked to any activity or production of the 80th Venice International Film Festival.”

Guevara rocketed to European fame in 2018 as Cristian Miralles Haro in the first season of Skam Spain, the local adaptation of a hit teen drama franchise, and his starring roles in My Fault films only increased his profile.

Skam Spain follows a group of 16-year-olds throughout their day-to-day lives in real-time, including how they rely on social media, face relationships and search for their identity.

The Prime Video franchise centers on Noah (Nicole Wallace) who is forced to leave her hometown for her mom’s new husband’s place, where she meets her new stepbrother, Nick (Guevara). While their personalities clash originally, their eventual attraction to each other leads them into a romantic relationship that turns their worlds upside down.

Guevara’s other credits include an upcoming role in Red Flags, as well as previous projects How to Screw it All Up, You’re Nothing Special, HIT, Dangerous Moms and Charter.
