BOSTON – There were some frightening moments on the MBTA Sunday afternoon after transit authorities say an overhead wire came down on the Green Line track causing sparks and smoke. Startled passengers quickly moved away from the Park Street platform, as smoke filled the station.
Twitter user @ArthurMansavage said the Green Line was “shooting sparks everywhere.” There were no reported injuries.
Shuttle buses replaced Green Line service between Kenmore and Government Center for several hours. As of 9 p.m., the MBTA’s website said train service had resumed but delays of up to 20 minutes are expected. The station stayed open for Red Line passengers.
Riders waiting for shuttles to get picked up were frustrated because some of the bus signs read “out of service.”
Jack Walsh just returned home from a trip and was trying to get home to Allston.
“You really have no information, people are yelling,” he told WBZ-TV.
“I’m trying to get to Copley, it seems like I’m going to have to walk,” rider Andre Noel said. “Public transportation here in Boston is terrible.”
