‘Spectacularly incompetent!’ Biden branded ‘massive embarrassment’ to US on world stage

Four days into 2020, the US President told Americans from the White House “there’s a lot of reason to be hopeful in 2020” – the horrible year of the pandemic everyone was glad to see the back of.

The US economy plunged again in the second quarter of this year to unofficially signal the start of a recession, with gross domestic product falling by an annualised rate of 0.9 percent.

In June, US inflation had surged to a four-decade high of 9.1 percent before falling slightly to 8.5 percent in July.

Mr Biden’s approval rating has also plunged significantly since the start of his presidency, piling pressure on the Democrats ahead of the crucial midterm elections.

Nile Gardiner, a Washington-based foreign policy expert, raged in an interview with Express.co.uk: “Joe Biden is an increasingly unpopular and gaffe-prone US President. It is very difficult to see how he will run again in 2024.

“Biden’s presidency is in very steep decline. Many within his own party are even questioning his ability to run again in 2024.

“Realistically, the chances of Biden running again are pretty low. His presidency has been the most left-wing presidency in US history and it’s been a disaster.

“Most Americans are very unhappy with the US presidency. He is certainly not fit to be leader of the free world.”

Mr Gardiner, who was a former aide former UK Prime Minister Lady Margaret Thatcher, branded the President “spectacularly incompetent” and warned he is quickly taking the US down a path of “steep decline”.

The foreign policy expert labelled the Biden presidency a “massive embarrassment for the United States on the world stage”, warning as a result, enemies no longer fear the global superpower.

He said: “Biden has been a spectacularly incompetent President, leading the US down a path of a very serious decline.

“He doesn’t act like a leader of the free world. This is a United States in retreat under Biden.

“The Biden presidency is a massive embarrassment for the United States on the world stage and has been a catastrophe at home and abroad.

“Enemies view the US as fundamentally weak and rudderless under Biden. They don’t fear America at all.”

Mr Biden still remains a deeply unpopular US President among Americans – despite a recent mini revival in his approval rating.

At the start of his presidency in January 2021, he was still receiving a majority approval rating, with 57 percent of US citizens expressing satisfaction with the work he was doing.

But this approval rating plunged below 50 percent as Covid cases soared throughout the country last summer, and was then tanked even further after the much-criticised withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in August 2021.

Since May, Mr Biden’s approval rating has been hovering below 40 percent as a result of a combination of the impact of the pandemic on supply chains Russia’s war in Ukraine sending energy prices surging and soaring inflation.

Earlier this week his approval score showed signs of recovery, with FiveThirtyEight’s composite approval rating, a weighted average of a number of polls, rising to 40.6 percent from 37.5 percent on July 21 – the lowest of his presidency so far.

But there is still mounting pressure on Mr Biden and his Democrats, who are on forecast to suffer crushing defeats in the crucial midterm elections in November.

The outcome of these elections will ultimately impact the remaining two years of Mr Biden’s term and provide a strong guide as to how the Democrats could perform in the 2024 presidential election.

Losing the House of Representatives in the midterms would also make it incredibly difficult for Biden’s administration to pass legislation.
