A top developer at Insomniac Games has revealed in a recently streamed interview that the company is working on an unannounced title in addition to its two current Marvel games, Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine.
Erin Eberhardt serves as a project director with Insomniac Games, where she has worked since November 2022, and has worked on streaming technology for PlayStation Now and in the eSports Division of Blizzard Entertainment, but she’s recently made the jump to being a project director, per her comments. “This is actually my first Triple-A game project now. I’m the project director on an unannounced project, so I am very excited to be actually making the games now,” she said in the interview.
What Eberhardt isn’t saying is what that project will be. Insomniac Games has found a lot of success in its partnership with Marvel, releasing the original Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 2020. Still, those aren’t the only properties for which the developer is known. In the late ’90s, Insomniac was the developer behind popular 3D platform series Spyro the Dragon, and just after the turn of the century, it also brought forth the Ratchet & Clank series, with its last entry in that series releasing in 2016, as well as a handful of other titles.
Following Eberhardt’s announcement, some people have tried to put two and two together, postulating that the unannounced project about which she’s talking is the same multiplayer project for which Insomniac began posting job listings for back in late June. The details of that project haven’t been laid out for the public either, but Insomniac had listed titles for five diferent jobs, including Creative Director.
As for Insomniac Games’ current projects, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has gotten a lot of recent hype this summer and is set to launch on October 20 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, while Marvel fans may be waiting as far out as 2025 before getting to step into Wolverine’s boots.
