Marvel fans have been loving Shameik Moore as the voice of Miles Morales, having brought the animated Spidey to life in the hit film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The actor reprises the role for the anticipated sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, now playing in movie theaters. He’ll be playing the role at least once more as Moore will voice Miles in the third installment of the trilogy, Beyond the Spider-Verse, which hits theaters in 2024.
Meanwhile, there are other big plans in store for Miles Morales. It was recently confirmed by producer Amy Pascal that a live-action film following the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man is in active development, joining a fourth Spider-Man film with Zendaya and Tom Holland along with the long-rumored Spider-Woman movie. The Miles film is in its early stages, as no actor has been announced for the role at this time. That leaves the door open for Moore to potentially play the live-action Miles as well, and as he tells THR in a new interview, he’s really hoping for that to happen, stressing that he’d give everything he had to such a role if he had the opportunity.
“I guess you would get more than the voice if I was to play it,” Moore said of what he could bring to the role. “I would get in shape, take the time to really slim, slim, slim up. Shave this beard. Go into afro-mode, take out the braids. And I would just put my entire being into that performance.”
Miles Morales Will Finally Get a Live-Action Film
Perhaps the biggest hurdle Moore faces with trying to land the role of Miles Morales is that the character is typically depicted as a teenager. At 28 years old, Moore might be getting to the point where he cannot convincingly play a teenage role. Of course, it’s always possible that the film could imagine a version of Miles Morales that’s a little older than the teenager from the animated films. The existence of the multiverse also makes it just as possible for Moore to appear as a Miles Morales variant, even if a younger actor is cast to play the main version.
Moore’s new film, Into the Spider-Verse, picks up after the events Into the Spider-Verse with Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), and others teaming up with the various Spideys from the multiverse. The film is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, and it is written by the team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. Other voice cast members include Biran Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Jakes Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, and Oscar Isaac.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is now playing in movie theaters. Its planned sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled to premiere on March 29, 2024, while Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland and the Miles Morales movie both don’t yet have set release dates.
