The latest 992 generation hasn’t been with us for very long, but it seems that Porsche is already leaning into the next incremental update to the iconic sports coupe. A Swedish spy photographer snapped this gently-camouflaged Porsche 911 Turbo testing in the country’s snowy north, and the images provide our first indication of what’s in store for a ‘992.2.’

In recent decades, Porsche has made a habit of mid-cycle refreshes to their models. Distinguished by enthusiasts with decimal suffixes, ‘.2’ updates have historically brought minor cosmetic changes accompanied by slight modernization or refinement of systems beneath the skin. The last-generation 991 models saw perhaps the biggest such shift, with enthusiasts drawing a firm line between the naturally-aspirated purity of 991.1 911 models and the diluted turbocharged experience that was applied across the range to 991.2s.

Though camouflaged, these photos seem to confirm that the facelifted 992.2 models will evolve with a revamped front clip, including new intakes and running lights. The rest of the car seems to hold to the familiar shape, but while there’s still time for that to change, we don’t expect this .2 to get too crazy.

Under the skin, the most logical next steps for the 911 seem to be hybridization. The 992-generation 911 uses the transmission from the Panamera Hybrid, lending credence to sources’ suggestions of a 400-volt system. Whether this setup will incorporate plug-in infrastructure is hard to say, though it would be a major asset to a hybrid 911’s urban commuting appeal. Either way, expect smoother torque delivery than ever, and more of it to boot.
