Splinter Cell To Get A BBC Radio 4 Adaptation

Video games getting movie or TV series adaptations are nothing new. In fact, it seems to be all the rage these days. But we’ve yet to see any company brave enough to come in from out of left field and propose a radio drama adaptation instead. Well, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has stepped up to the challenge no one issued and has decided that it will do just that with Splinter Cell.

Dubbed Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Firewall, the company announced that it will be a BBC Radio 4 drama, due to release as soon as December. It will be an eight-part series too, reportedly recorded in 3D binaural audio for an even more immersive experience for headphone users.

For hardcore fans of the series, you’re probably aware that there was a novel published earlier this year with the exact same name. With that in mind, it’s probably safe to say that the radio drama will be following the plot of said novel. This lines up with the synopsis of the radio show, which describes Sam Fisher as a “veteran Fourth Echelon agent”. Sam’s daughter, Sarah, will also be joining the agent which, like the novel, means that this takes place after the events of Splinter Cell: Blacklist, the 2013 game when Fourth Echelon was first set up.

According to the BBC, Sam Fisher in the radio drama is played by Andonis Anthony, with Daisy Head playing Sarah. Other cast members with unspecified roles include Rosalie Craig, Sacha Dhawan, Nikesh Patel and Will Poulter.

The BBC Radio 4 version of Splinter Cell: Firewall starts broadcasts on 2 December, with each episode being about 30 minutes in length. They will also be available as a boxset on BBC Sounds streaming service. For now, it’s unclear if this will be made available elsewhere at a later date.
