There’s no objective way to measure what the “most unbreakable” records in sports are. But ESPN’s staff members attempted to do just that and fans quickly made their thoughts on the list known.
A short while ago ESPN published its list of 11 of “Sports’ Most Unbreakable Records.” The Worldwide Leader in Sports pulled from five different sports – football, hockey, baseball, basketball and the Olympics – to get their results.
Here’s the list:
- Jerry Rice – 22,895 receiving yards
- Wayne Gretzky – 1,963 assists
- Cy Young – 749 complete games
- Wilt Chamberlain – 50.4 points per game in a season
- Boston Celtics – eight consecutive NBA titles
- Simone Biles – 19 world gymnastics gold medals
- Cal Ripken Jr. – 2,632 consecutive games played
- UConn Huskies women’s basketball – 111-game winning streak
- Rickey Henderson – 1,406 stolen bases
- Michael Phelps – 28 Olympic medals
- Emmitt Smith – 18,355 rushing yards.
Those are some impressive feats to be sure. But sports fans believe that there are more than a few that ESPN left off the list.
Fans made cases for sports legends such as Tiger Woods, John Stockton, Joey Chestnut and the late-great Joe DiMaggio for some of the feats they’ve accomplished through the years”

There’s really no right or wrong answer here as just about all of those records seem equally unattainable.
