Some sports fans who were critical of Brittney Griner have begun to “forgive” the WNBA star following her national anthem comments this weekend.
Griner played in her first WNBA game since returning from imprisonment in Russia. She was in prison in Russia for nearly a year on drug charges.
Friday night, Griner played in front of her WNBA fans and felt emotional during the national anthem.
“Hearing the national anthem, it definitely hit different,” Griner said. “It’s like when you go for the Olympics, you’re sitting there, about to get gold put on your neck, the flags are going up, and the anthem is playing, it just hits different.
“Being here today… it means a lot.”
Privileged basketball player Brittney Griner, who once argued that the National Anthem shouldn’t be played, has finally found some respect for her great country.
On Friday evening, Griner spoke out after she stood for the National Anthem.

Some fans are now “forgiving” her.
“I have now forgiven Ms.Griner, this is a powerful statement from her and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Maybe now she get it. The flag is color blind. It’s creed blind,” one fan wrote.
“Not that I like her past actions, but she has influence and could possibly change some people’s minds,” one fan added.
“A little perspective, like sitting in a Russian jail for a while will do that,” one fan added.
“The sound and words of the National Anthem will always change your mind & heart when those freedoms you took for granted for so long are taken away and you can’t do a damn thing about it…. Thank a Veteran and God Bless America…” another fan wrote.
It’s good that Griner is now home safe, that’s for sure.
