Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George is causing some controversy in the sports world after a comment on the latest episode of his podcast.
"I don't think an [NFL] player could cross over to the NBA… That athleticism, that strength—that means nothing if you can't shoot the ball in our league… I think we have a better chance."

On an episode of his Podcast P Show, George remarked that NBA players would have an easier time transitioning into the NFL than a football player attempting to play professional basketball.
“I don’t think a football player could cross over into the NBA,” George said. “I think for NFL guys to be able to play in the league, they got to be a hell of a shooter, right? Because otherwise, we’re not going to guard you.”
One fan pointed out that there are far more roster spots in the NFL than in the NBA, which supports George’s claim.
I tend to agree with Paul on this one. Basketball is a skill/touch game more than the NFL, but that said, I actually agree mostly because of the numbers. Only 450 players in the NBA. Around 1700 just on active rosters in the NFL.
If the numbers were flipped I’d say otherwise.

“NBA players would be sidelined in their first NFL game for the most part,” another fan said, noting the jump in physicality from one sport to the other.

“NBA players flop on touch fouls,” another fan said. “One hit from a linebacker and they’re subbing themselves out.”

Over the years, there have been players who excelled in both football and basketball. Charlie Ward was a Heisman-winning quarterback before his NBA career. Antonio Gates and Julius Peppers were Division I basketball players before moving to the NFL.
It’s unlikely that there will ever be a player to play both professionally, but there have been players who did well in both sports.
