Sports World Reacts To Coach K's New Job Announcement

Legendary basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski is ready to take on a new challenge.

The NBA announced Wednesday that Coach K will be its new special adviser to basketball operations. He’ll be at next week’s general managers meeting in Chicago.

Byron Spruell, the NBA’s president of league operations, talked about adding Krzyzewski to the league’s braintrust.

“We are honored to have Coach K join the NBA family and share his vast experience and expertise with the league and our teams,” said Spruell, via ESPN. “As a preeminent coach and renowned leader who cares deeply about the game of basketball, he is uniquely suited to drive discussions and offer insights about the present and future of the NBA.”

Basketball fans around the world are also excited about this development, and rightfully so. Coach K’s résumé is one of a kind.

Krzyzewski retired from coaching after the 2021-22 college basketball season. Jon Scheyer then took over as Duke’s head coach.

Coach K called his new gig a tremendous opportunity for him to “deepen my connection to the NBA and participate in conversations about further strengthening the league and the game.”
