During one practice in the preseason, Green walked over to Jordan Poole and punched him in the face out of frustration.
The men were mature enough to move past it with a season approaching, but things were never the same.
While appearing on the Stephen A. Smith podcast on Wednesday, Green said the Warriors would still be in the playoffs if not for what happened.
“We’re not playing right now because when you speak of all the slippage we had as a team on the road, not being able to come together,” Green said. “Those things don’t happen because of my voice and the department where I lead this team; there was a ton of slippage from me sitting back and not saying anything.
“Me sitting back and allowing that situation to play itself out and giving it time to heal. By February, I started to feel like myself again and speak more, but guess what? That was five months into the season when slippage had been occurring. And by February, you are who you are at that point.”
NBA fans reacted to the comments on social media.
Costing the team 2 great players should be grounds for not renewing his contract but I know what a push-over that front office is https://t.co/bk63Ix4BtC

Love how he talks about it like it wasn’t his own damn fault and that the team wouldn’t let him be the glue guy https://t.co/9vAFxpE90l

????????♂️ I genuinely can’t believe he said this on air. He’d literally speak through super glue. That being said, everything he said was PAINFULLY OBVIOUS all season and likely 10000% true https://t.co/gxpHjllz76
