The New Orleans Pelicans provided an update on Zion Williamson that offered little new information.
Per the team, Pelicans general manager David Griffin shared a wordy message suggesting the star has not made significant progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
“After further evaluation, it has been determined that Zion Williamson will continue his rehabilitation and conditioning regimen,” Griffin said. “We will continue to monitor his progression, and updates will be provided as warranted.”
Onlookers attempted to decipher the murky update, which doesn’t seem to bode well for a playoff return.
“Unfortunately, this doesn’t sound very promising for the play-in,” Melissa Rohlin of FOX Sports determined.

“When you don’t want to say no yet, but the answer is definitely not yes and you’re just trying to sound polite like you’re thinking about it,” the Associated Press’ Brian Mahoney wrote of Griffin’s statement.

It may mean Williamson, who hasn’t played since Jan. 2, isn’t returning this season.
Currently eighth in the Western Conference at 41-39, the Pelicans are currently slated to face the Los Angeles Lakers for the No. 7 seed. However, they’re just one game behind the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors for the fifth and sixth slots.
After sitting the entire 2021-22 season, Williamson didn’t miss a beat when averaging 26.0 points and 7.0 rebounds through 29 games. However, his latest injury continued a concerning trend of extended missed time for the former No. 1 overall pick.
The Pelicans close their final two games of the regular season against the New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves.
