Heading into her fourth season in the WNBA, New York Liberty point guard Sabrina Ionescu has established herself as one of the best players in the league and is being rewarded for it with her own signature shoe.
On Thursday, the Ionescu’s new signature shoe from Nike, the Sabrina 1, was revealed to the public. Speaking to ESPN’s Nick DePaula, Ionescu said she hopes to be a trail blazer for more female athletes to get their own signature shoes in the future.
“I want kids and people of all age ranges, males and females, to be able to get this shoe and see themselves in it and the possibility of being who you want to be,” Ionescu said.
Many fans and sneakerheads are taking to Twitter to give their thoughts on the new shoe. While a few have criticisms, for the most part people love them and think they’re even better than some of the current signature shoes from big NBA stars:
Sabrina Ionescu was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft after an historic career at Oregon. She quickly proved to be a star in the making, but really burst onto the scene in 2022, when she earned All-Star honors while averaging 17.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game.
The trajectory is only pointing up for the Liberty star.
