Warriors star Steph Curry is making headlines this Tuesday, but it has nothing to do with his skills on the hardwood.
According to multiple reports, the Curry family are against the town of Atherton building a plethora of three-story townhomes. This low-income housing development would take place near Curry’s $30 million mansion.
“We hesitate to add to the ‘not in our backyard’ (literally) rhetoric, but we wanted to send a note before today’s meeting. Safety and privacy for us and our kids continues to be our top priority and one of the biggest reasons we chose Atherton as home,” Steph and Ayesha Curry wrote in a letter to officials in Atherton.
The Curry family is receiving some backlash on social media for being against this idea.
One person tweeted, “Steph said keep the poor away from me and mine!!!”
“Cuz you can talk the talk but not walk it,” a second person said. “Another elitist whiner.”
“All I can do is laugh,” a third person wrote.
The Curry family has also apparently petitioned the local government to build fencing and shrubbery around their home.
It’s worth noting that Forbes ranked Atherton as the “most expensive” zip code in the United States this year.
