The Miami Heat shocked the basketball world yet again on Wednesday night when they defeated the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
As usual, Heat star Jimmy Butler was a driving force in the win, leading all scorers with 35 points.
The Heat have been one of the more improbable NBA stories in recent memory, emerging as a contender after barely making the playoffs as the No. 8 seed.
In a series against the heavily favored and massively popular Celtics, some fans had concerns of potential referee bias. Those fears may have been realized on Wednesday, when one basket scored by Butler drew a reaction that some fans are calling “suspicious.”

A referee appeared to throw his head back in disgust after Butler made a layup in Game 1, and the referee’s reaction has fans talking.
“Anti-Miami bias in sports is real,” one fan said. “We all know it. We see it with our own eyes.”

Last year they took away a legit 3 pointer from Max Struss.
This year they blatantly missed an obvious shot that skimmed the rim that resulted in a shot clock violation.

“And y’all are gonna be out here saying that the NBA and it’s refs aren’t playing favorites when it comes to these playoffs,” another fan said.

“@OfficialNBARefs explain this. Obvious bias all game and then this,” another fan said. “Stop trying to ruin the sport.”

If the Celtics win Game 2 to even the series, it may only lend more credence to the belief of some fans that the refs are indeed biased.
