The Philadelphia 76ers swept the Brooklyn Nets in their first-round series, but star center Joel Embiid suffered a sprained knee in Game 3 and missed Game 4 of that series.

The Sixers are set to take on the Boston Celtics in the East semis, and head coach Doc Rivers relayed some less-than-ideal information regarding Embiid’s health heading into the Boston series.

Rivers says Embiid is doubtful to play in Game 1 against Boston on Monday, meaning that the Sixers will be without their best player to begin the most important series of their season.

The sports world reacted to the announcement on Saturday.

“Harden and Tobias need to earn their money,” said one Philadelphia fan.

“Celtics in 5 you heard it here first,” another fan said.

“Once Game 1 comes around it’ll be 10 days since Embiid had last been on the court and he’s still not ready,” another fan noted. “Hard to imagine he’ll ever be 100% this series.”

Many fans were hoping that the long layoff would give Embiid time to recover, but it appears that wasn’t the case. Now the Sixers will have to play one of the best teams in the East without their best player and the MVP front-runner – for at least one game in this series.
