Phil Jackson’s recent comments about the NBA drew plenty of attention.

In an episode of “Tetragammaton with Rick Rubin,” the 11-time champion said he has not watched the NBA since the 2020 Orlando bubble due to what he feels was the league getting too “political.”

“They even had slogans on the floor and the baseline,” Jackson said. “It was trying… to bring a certain audience to the game, and they didn’t know it was turning other people off. People want to see sports as non-political.”

One of the people who responded to Jackson’s comments is ESPN’s Jalen Rose, who fired back in a video posted on Twitter Sunday afternoon. Rose pointed out the apparent hypocrisy in Jackson’s remarks considering he won championships and “made millions” off the “backs and sweat equity” of some of the greatest black athletes to ever play the game.

“When somebody shows you who they are, believe them” Rose said. “So stop watching. Forever.”

Rose’s comments have sparked a reaction from listeners as well.

“I love how Jalen keeps it real,” one person said.

“Short and sweet. Jalen nails it down,” said another commenter.

“God forbid someone be turned off by sports being political,” disagreed a third.

“Phil Jackson showed his true colors,” said a fourth person.

“Disappointed to hear #PhilJackson‘s comments about the #NBA getting ‘too political’ by having #BLM on the court & equality-affirming slogans on player jerseys after the George Floyd murder. Didn’t figure Phil to be a ‘shut up & dribble’ guy. @JalenRose is right to call him out,” another person wrote.

“Why y’all soo worked about this?” another Twitter user wondered.

If Phil Jackson really has given up on watching the NBA, he’s missed a couple of really good playoff games today.
