Joel Embiid won the NBA MVP Award this season after Nikola Jokic took home the honor for two straight years prior.
While there were many basketball fans and media members who argued that Jokic was a more deserving candidate than Embiid again this year, the Denver Nuggets superstar dispelled that notion in his press conference following Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals Monday night.
“People are just mean in saying that Embiid shouldn’t have won it,” Jokic said. “I think he should [have] won it. I think he was playing, if you watch it, extremely, extremely tough basketball through the whole season.”

Jokic’s praise for his fellow center was well-received among fans on social media.
“I know Jokic says a lot of things unprompted, but if this was in response to a specific question asked by the media, then shame on them,” said one fan. “Let’s focus on the Nuggets winning and their team, not one of the most ridiculous narratives of the year regarding the MVP from 4 weeks ago.”
