Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is among those who have criticized former Penn swimmer Lia Thomas.
Thomas, an All-American swimmer at Penn, dominated inside of the pool last season, after previously competing on the men’s side. She transitioned and began swimming for the women’s team.
DeSantis is among those who have criticized her.
“It is wrong to have a swimmer compete for three years on the men’s swim team, switch to the women’s team, and then win the women’s national championship,” the Florida governor said. “That is a fraud. That is wrong.”

The sports world has been debating transgender athletes for a while now.
