There’s something about the smell of French fries that is so enticing.

The Idaho Potato Commission is banking on it and decided to put out a fragrance inspired by the product they are best known for.
In honour of Idaho Potato Lovers Month, the state agency — which is responsible for promoting the signature crop — began developing the fragrance after a survey revealed that 90% of people love the smell of French fries.
But knowing what they wanted to do was easy. Making it happen and coming up with formulas was another story.
“We created the perfume in-house and didn’t employ a perfumer; we just looked at lots of different perfumes,” Jeweldean Hull of the Idaho Potato Commission told Newsweek. “But many had a lot of varied aromas and we just wanted the scent of French fries.”
Hull revealed they even tried using cooking oil but that just made the fragrance look oily so that idea was rejected.
In the end, three samples made the final cut.
“To create the perfume, we used essential oils and Idaho distilled russet potatoes, which are also the best potatoes for actual French fries,” she divulged before they voted on the one that smelled most like French fries.
