The San Antonio Spurs reportedly waived a veteran forward on Monday afternoon.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that San Antonio is cutting Lamar Stevens, who was acquired by the team in a three-way trade earlier this month.
Stevens, 26, spent his first three pro seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The former Penn State star averaged 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 2022-23, appearing 62 contests with 25 starts.
He also appeared in two games during Cleveland’s first-round playoff loss to the New York Knicks.
The Spurs are waiving forward Lamar Stevens, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. The defensive-minded Stevens averaged 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 62 games (25 starts) for the Cavaliers last season.

In 165 games over his three seasons with Cleveland, Stevens averaged 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
After making just 22-of-90 three-point attempts in his first two years, Stevens connected on 30-of-95 triples (31.6%) in 2022-23, so perhaps his improved outside stroke combined with his physicality and defensive skills will entice another team to take a shot on him in the coming weeks.
