The Island country’s cricket board announced the schedule on Tuesday as they prepare for their upcoming ICC World Cup Qualifiers in June and July which will take place in Zimbabwe.
The Lankans missed out on direct World Cup qualification and see the Afghanistan test as a preparation for the Qualifiers. The SLC announced the three ODIs will start on 2nd June and will be concluded on 7th June.
It was confirmed that all matches of the series will be played at Hambantota. The coastal city on the shore of the Indian Ocean will welcome international cricket at the venue for the first time since 2020.
It is also the 2nd ODI tour for the Afghans in Sri Lanka, having already toured last November. At that time, Rashid Khan and his troops managed an impressive 1-1 draw in a three-match series.
The Afghans took the lead in the series with a 60-run victory in the first match. The second match was washed out and the hosts rallied back in the final to win by 4 wickets and restored parity.
It is understood that Afghanistan will be reaching Sri Lanka on May 29. A few of the Sri Lankan and Afghan players are currently on IPL duty, and they may have to rush back from India if anyone reaches the latter stages of the tournament. The IPL Final will be played on May 28.
