‘SRK, the face of India’: Fan frenzy after ICC shares picture of Shah Rukh Khan crushing over World Cup trophy

Notably, India is hosting the ODI World Cup for the first time after 2011. It was also the last time when India won the coveted trophy. The two editions since then have seen India facing heartbreak defeats in the semi-final. The fans are highly hopeful of India winning the trophy again at home.

The picture shared by the ICC was an instant hit. Shah Rukh Khan’s popularity combined with the craze for cricket saw the picture get over one million views within 10 hours of posting.

Here’s how the fans reacted.

India will kick off their World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. The Men in Blue will lock horns with Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi. The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15.

In their fourth match, India will face Bangladesh in Pune before aiming to avenge their 2019 semi-final defeat against New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamsala.

Lucknow is scheduled to host the India vs England clash, while Mumbai will set the stage for India’s match against Sri Lanka. The Rohit Sharma-led side will face South Africa at the Eden Gardens on November 5. In the last round robin match, the hosts will take on Netherlands in Bengaluru on November 11.
